Friendshoppe Girls

Friendship means Friendshoppe!

Introduction

The FRIENDSHOPPE GIRLS is a female group composed of seven (7) young ladies from Liceo de Cagayan (University), namely Kristine Cabico, Vanina Mae Nazarenee Decasa, Sheila Germino, Helen Liway Lua, Loredana Manrique, Diane Kristine Orquiza and May Ann Serna.

During the group’s formation, the girls were on their last year in grade school (sixth grade) under the section INDUSTRY with adviser Ms. Maria Elena Tumanda. At that time, the main goal of the group was to create a loving and sister-like atmosphere between each other as well as exercise the rights and limitless capabilities of being a girl.

The group participated and headed various school activities such as dance presentations, theater plays and quiz bowls. Kristine or Kcabz as the girls would fondly call her was an active member of the Dance Troupe as well as Math Club. Nina was the President of the Science Club. Sheila was into tennis as a sport and the flute for her music. Diane was a straight A – honor student who was also part of Glee Club. Helen was also in Glee Club and the Dance Troupe. She was also the class president at that time. Lore was an active member of the Glee Club while May Ann was a pioneer and a leader of the Peer Counselors.

The biggest achievement that the FRIENDSHOPPE GIRLS had during that year was winning the theater play competition. POCAHONTAS was a joint project between sections INDUSTRY and FORBEARANCE. Each girl had various roles to fulfill be it on-stage or off-stage which contributed to the play’s great success!

The group disbanded in 1997 when the members went to different high schools and the communication has been cut-off.  Kristine was sent to Corpus Christi, Nina went to Lourdes College High School, Sheila was in Opol National High School, Diane and Helen stayed in Liceo, Lore was in Pilgrim Christian College and May Ann went to St. Mary’s in Tagoloan. Between school work, new friends and a great geographical distance the girls simply didn’t have much of a choice but to proceed with their own separate lives.

Nina’s debut got the group together as it is one of her greatest wish. With all efforts of trying to contact each member the group finally had their first reunion on the 20th of May in 2001 which was held at Rick Nob's Horizon in Baloy Cagayan de Oro City. After that, the girls went on their separate ways, chasing dreams and fulfilling the meaning of life. Even though those years were spent far apart from each other, what’s important is that each of the members really made sure that they maintain communication with each other every now and then. Having new friends does not really mean that the old ones are forgotten. What’s great about the FRIENDSHOPPE GIRLS is that they have never really forgotten what it was like in the past, and they look forward to what its going to be like in the future.
